Joe's Bluebird Cafe
Here's a piece I finished over the Summer. I cannot express how happy I am with the way it turned out. I'm so pleased that I'm thinking of doing nine more pieces in the same vein for a possible solo show next year. We'll see. First I have to finish this crazy huge commission piece. | | Friday, May 20th, 2011 | | 2:32 am |
Back in the mix!
It's been a while but I'm back! Here's the deal; since my gorgeous son was born two and a half years ago, I've found it impossible to focus on painting. He's a joy, it's true, but he's also a constant distraction. Those of you who feel the urge to create will understand how hard it can be to settle into that creative "zone" if you're subject to constant interruption. Fortunately the boy has finally started to sleep more reliably through the night, leaving me able to pick up my palette again. The silver lining is that my imposed sabbatical allowed me to step back and take an objective look at my work. I realized that my work had been thematically repetative and I'd been too close to my paintings to see it. I kept focusing on one of four subjects; nudes, street scenes, musicians and dancers. It dawned on me that bouncing around between these subjects limited my scope. Why not combine all of them into a single image? The piece below was my first attempt at this idea. "Sara's Party" - 28x22 inches
